Pat is honored to have been chosen to give the Arbuthnot lecture on April 15, 2016 at the Santa Barbara Public Library System in Santa Barbara, CA.

Since 1970, the Association of Library Service to Children (ALSC) a division of the American Library Association (ALA) has recognized a career contribution to children’s literature by selecting an individual to write and deliver the May Hill Arbuthnot Lecture, a talk that makes a significant scholarly contribution to the field of children’s literature. The lecturer may be an “author, critic, librarian, historian, or teacher of children’s literature, of any country.” The Arbuthnot Lecture Committee selects someone from a list of nominations, a process currently completed in January 15 to 18 months before the event.
