Gracias to some special Día partners
Pat Mora was inspired to create Día by the Mexican tradition of celebrating April 30th as El día del niño. Even though Día has now expanded to be a year-long commitment to linking ALL children and families to books, we’d like to thank some of our Día partners who have a special mission to reach Latinos.
REFORMA
REFORMA, the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking, was Día’s first organizational partner. Hard-working REFORMA Presidents, committee chairs and members served as judges for the The Estela and Raúl Mora Award for fifteen years.
¡Colorín Colorado!
A bilingual site for educators and families of English language learners, ¡Colorín Colorado! has a wonderful Día page with information about planning a celebration; resources for parents; and classroom activities and other ideas for teachers. There’s also a great article by Irania Patterson and Jamie Campbell Naidoo, The Spirit of Día: Celebrating Cuentos Every Day.
Arte Público Press
Arte Público Press is the nation’s largest and most established publisher of contemporary and recovered literature by U.S. Hispanic authors. Each year they actively promote Día and offer discounts on books purchased for Día celebrations.
